My Set Up

I have been asked on many an occasion about my personal set up, so my camera, microphone, lenses and other equipment I have on set. I'll run through each piece in depth with my personal opinion and a rating out of 10 from my personal use.

Camera:

I personally use a Canon 600d/ T3i and would highly recommend this as a starter camera if you're getting into DSLR filmmaking and I've used this camera for 3 years now. It has done me very well and hasn't broke once which I'm very pleased about considering the amount of times I've dropped this piece of equipment. The camera will be given a 8/10 and is easily my favourite camera I've owned.

Lenses

I have 2 lenses that I mainly use when filming, these being the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens that comes with the camera. It is truely amazing at the limits the lens can be put through to achieve amazing shots. With careful use and accuracy you can make this lens look very professional meaning this lens gets a 6/10 and is a great starter lens.

My second lens is a 50mm f/1.8 and truely remarkable in low light situations as seen in the opening of my latest short Twelve Grams. This low budget lens is a must have for photography and filmmaking earning itself a 8/10.

Microphone

The Rode video mic is my personal microphone of choice much like many other filmmakers. It's high quality sound at a low price makes the piece very useful for independent filmmakers. There is not much I can say as it pretty much does what it says on the tin. 9/10.

Other Equipment

I use a pretty basic tripod to which I do not know the brand name as it has come off due to so much usage however I know it was about £40 but I'm not too bothered with a tripod as I like to shoot handheld a lot. When shooting handheld I either use my Opteka X-Grip which is perfect for getting low angle swooping shots and a shoulder rig I bought from amazon which is ideal for any handheld shot and supplies a good amount of stability whilst maintaining that handheld look. 5/10 for tripod, 6/10 for X-Grip and 9/10 for shoulder rig
